Is Client’s place rented or owned

Do not assume that a client’s place is owned.

Always check because there are limitations that may alter their final decision on the installation.

Case Study:

A client confirmed that he wanted a wired analog CCTV system. All arrangements were made ready to install. Till final moment .. client decided that it may violate Terms and Conditions with the landlord and decided not to mount on the ceilings.

Addtional time was wasted on the installers who did complained a bit. Arrangements have to be made to get a different set of devices.

Fortunately the client is a fair and nice person who is willing to pay for the man hours. Else i’ll be screwed.

Also for commercial/industrial premises .. the landlords may have special requirements like permits / certifications / deposits / etc. Which may eventually up the overall cost of the installation.

Case Study:

Client’s landlord is MapleTree. In the end, MapleTree required:

LEW Certification on drawings

Workman Compensation douments (or something like that)

$1000 Deposit

Floorplan

etc

Do not install cameras with different sensors for the same client

Do not do it unless the client have been informed beforehand. Else he will think that the lower spec camera is faulty.

Case Study:

Installed 2 420TVL IR cameras for same client. 2 using Sharp sensors and 2 using Sony sensor.

The clarer and sharper images caused client to think that the Sharp cameras are faulty.

VGA Distance limitation

VGA cables have a distance limitation and it depends on:

Quality of cables (3-core / 5-core)
Number of connections
Environment
Quality of Video output from device like Display card/TV/etc
Resolution of Video (800×600 vs 1600×1200)

Most typical cables (those u get from ur typical hardware store) are good up to 25′ +/-. Solutions in overcoming the limitation of VGA cable distances can be done in the following methods:

Get a good or maybe even customised cables that can run 100′ or more.
Get a VGA baluns.
Get VGA extenders. (Some sort like an active balun)
Using RG59 with VGA converter (yet to try)

GENERAL SETTINGS ::

Password Setup >> Local Account Edit

Create a “User” level account for general users

Check that all rights to close/exit/stop/delete/etc are disabled
Check on FullScreen Enter under Multicam tab
Check on User cannot change password

Sytem Configure

Click on the following:

Start Monitor >> (Monitor all)
Webcam Server
Startup Auto Login

Enter your login id/password
Auto Login to Full screen Mode

Exit Option >> Auto Shut down Windows

Change the folder path for storing the video footage

For Camera Record Settings

Click on:

Rec Video
>> Motion Record
>> Change video format to Geo H264 V2
Apply Advanced Codec Settings
>> Noise Reduction Sensitivity: 2
Register Motion Event

Adjust Colours/Contrast/Saturation/Hue if needed

Auto Reboot Setup

Click on Auto Reboot System
Enter the time which you want the system to reboot
Switch settings to Apply Startup Settings

Dealing with contractors

Be Strict with Timelines. Insist on contractors sticking to it.

Be strict on yourself. Be strict on your own dead lines to contractors. Be dead serious to them and this gives u power to demand they be also dead serious about their commitments to you.

Get contractors to report to you on progress daily.
Get them to tell u if there is any delay.
Insist on timeline. It’s better u farking them than clients questioning you cos eventually it is U that the client sees.

Clients don’t give no 2 shit what happens at the contractor’s end but only on whether the job is done.

For big projects spanning over couple of days, ALWAYS start with the cameras nearest to the location of the DVR. That way, the clients can start to see the progress and know that work is being done.

Also, clients will do the monitoring of the progress of work for you.

Contractors, on the other hand, knowing that both their direct clients (me) and their indirect clients (my clients) are watching will not try to do anything funny.
